April 5, 2010 Happy Easter

Dear Family!

Hh man! CONFERENCE WAS GREAT! the English room was rockin' all the elders brought candy and drinks and we arranged a little lunch party between Saturday night and Sunday morning. I made a pizookie that was amazing and gone pretty quickly. It is hard to pick a favorite. When Elder Holland went up, the elder next to me said, "now he's going to yell at us." then when I realized his subject was pornography, I said "yep, he is going to yell at you."

The family was hit so hard this conference! It was so good though, having Belinda and Kai there listening to those talks! Elder Packer's talk was so good for him since he will soon be a priesthood holder.

President Monson's beginning was so funny. The English/missionary room was CRACKING up. I let Belinda and Kai borrow the Thomas S. Monson movie and they really liked watching it before conference.

Kai is solid, they came to 2 sessions and he went to priesthood session and took notes! It was so good.

We do a lot of finding, find people, and then they aren't interested. I don't have a ton to update you on. we had a good rendez-vous with a girl who seems pretty interested, but she said she's busy until May. We also met another girl, Kelly, who is good. We met with her and she was supposed to come to conference, but ended up going away for the weekend. She is agnostic, she believes a lot in energies and feng-shui [that decorating thing]. I pointed out the Spirit in the rendez-vous and she said that she liked it.

Soeur Kohler received a great gift this week. A woman, probably late 40's that comes to English class. she is from Vietnam and is always blinged out, but it's the cheap stuff. We didn't go to English class because we had a rendez-vous, but the elders did. We got a call and one of the elders was crying from laughing so hard. Turns out, this woman, had brought Soeur Kohler some lacey light blue lingerie and it is just ridiculous. I can't wait to see it.

A lot of times we meet people who don't speak English or French. I was hoping that you could get everyone we know that know another language to write
1. who I am as a missionary and
2. their testimony and send them to me? that would be great!

love you all!
Happy Easter!

March 29, 2010

Dear Family,

Another week came and flew by. I don't know if anyone besides me noticed, but I hit my 7 month mark! Holla!

Remember that one time when matt came home from his mission and in the car coming home from the airport he said, "do we have milk in the house?" I am starting to have the same sentiments...even though I am in a first world country, the milk here is terrible.

So, pretty said, Siva and Talei have decided to only speak with the tj's. It was a pretty tough hit, just feeling like everyone I have become emotionally invested in decides to use their agency in a not so good way...part of this mission I guess.

On the flipside, Kai is still doing great, his baptism is still going to happen on the 24th.

Probably the saddest experience contacting was this week. We went over to this garden park and there was a family with a little girl who was 16 months. When wee saw her, we could tell she had health problems, her face was a little mis-shaped and she had a tube coming out of her ear. I asked them what the significance of the family was for them. The dad said, “no we're atheists.” I said, “so atheists don't believe in the family?” He said, “I know where you are going, we're atheists and not interested.” The little girl was walking and as we walked away she ran after us and when her parents went to stop her she had the SADDEST look on her face.

We had exchanges this week and Soeur Christensen came up here. She is way cool, we had fun and it was good to be reunited with a Parisian. It is hard because in the apartment I don't know the sisters or elders that they talk about and they don't know who I am talking about, so it was nice to have someone. I hope a Parisian gets sent up here next transfer, which is the 14th. Transfer 5!!!

I am gaining 2 reputations here; one as a dynamite cook and the other as a killer at soccer. Both are being exaggerated. I made a cake for district lunch that Soeur Roberts gave me the recipe to and cookies for our activity today, another Soeur Roberts recipe. The soccer one is from this last samedi sports .A kid was coming towards me and he thought he could just plow through me. he came straight at me, so I turned to my side and he didn't know how to take the hit so he ended up rolling. By the time we left soccer I had "demolished" 2 missionaries. Oh how this is getting exaggerated.

Today we went to Vimy, a monument for WW1 for the French, English and Canadians. It was pretty cool.

Hope all is going well! love and miss you all!
Love camille

March 22,2010

Dear fam,

Friday night at 10, we got a text from the bishop's wife asking me if I could give a talk on Sunday. Since we were too busy on Saturday for me to write one, I pretty much just went up and read true to the faith. it was on obtaining personal revelation. don't worry, I added a few gems of my wisdom.

This week flew. We met a lot of people, we taught a lot, and a lot of people said no. HOWEVER, we set a for sure baptismal date for Kai, April 24th. I will probably still be here, Soeur Kohler will probably be gone. This is her third transfer here and usually president doesn't leave sisters in an area for more than one transfer. I for one and excited to see what will happen because I was the only originally Parisian to leave Paris area. Soeur Kohler keeps thinking that she will head back up to Belgium.

Siva and Talei didn't come to church yesterday because Siva was sick. Talei is coming to an FHE at Belinda’s tonight. I committed them to baptism last week. Siva said yes, but that he didn't know if he was ready and Talei didn't say anything. hopefully conference will be a big turning block, plus there is a baptism this weekend that could be good. we just keep praying for them.

At DMP in Versailles we would pray in English and a lot of the elders after praying would say "oh man that was so hard." I used to scoff at them in my head, but now I say all my prayers in French.

I finished Helaman in my baby book of Mormon today, CRAZY that this transfer is almost over!

Yesterday I didn't straighten my hair and it was drizzly. When I got to church, my hair was curly. CRAZY!

love you all!

March 16, 2010

you know you are in france when the sacrament bread is a baguette

Dear fam,
Today the email is going to be rushed. We went to Brussels today, which was cool. A bunch of people had to go for legality and so half of my district went. We went to grand place and saw Manneken Pis and ate Belgium waffles. I got you a present mom.

Tuesday was our first district meeting and boy was that interesting. Some of the belge missionaries aren't very happy about the merge and have a stereotype of Paris missionaries that we are all discouraged, down-trodden and have very low expectations of our mission. Our district leader played on that A LOT. He then asked us to fast every week for our area, one of the zone leaders said that he had heard that we weren't supposed to fast that often. Luckily zone conference was the next day and the district leader asked president. President said, "Dallen H. Oaks said, 'I don't know why people think they always need to do more than the Lord asks them.' keep your fasts to a minimum elder." SO GLAD when I heard that. I have a different attitude towards fasting, however it makes the work so hard when we are out and about as much as we are. On Tuesday I also saw a man walking a ferret like a puppy dog. That made my night!

So far no one is getting baptized on the 27th. However, we do have a baptismal date for Kai, the husband of Belinda. They are from Tonga and here so he can play rugby. They met the missionaries the end of January and Belinda was baptized before I got here and we set a date with Kai this week. Pretty exciting stuff.

Siva and Talei are good. We hope to see them tonight. All I know is the tj stuff is messing with Talei and making her more confused. Luckily I had my "lessons" with the tj's and know their beliefs. Definitely helps when teaching someone who is also being taught by them.

OH MAN, there was this one day where all kinds of craziness happened! We had just left Siva and Talei's and were walking down the street and I said “bon jour” to this woman. We continued to talk about the weather and how Paris area is nicer this time of year. We got on the metro and she was like, "would you like my phone number to come and visit me?" We were like "umm do you know who we are", but gladly took it. She invited us to Paris this weekend, but had to decline. Instead we are seeing her tomorrow.

Later that day I sat down and this teenage kid was like "hey, I know you!" and I was like "really," knowing he didn't, I never contact teenage boys. He said, “yeah we talked for like 20 at this place”. I asked him what we talked about and he said, “ Jesus” . I asked him if he liked what we talked about and he said yes, so I handed him a Book of Mormon, and asked him to read Alma 32 and call me. Then I went and sat by Soeur Kohler and a 17 year old started talking to us and told us we were charming with our accents. We gave him a plan of salvation pamphlet.

Samedi sports was good. I keep having to guard this kid named Thomas who is like 15 and WAY good. He reminds me a lot of Aaron!

Peace and love family, pictures next week!
